S1 Ep 19 – Best Ever School Project

Mike’s best ever school project is the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, which gives Scottish young people the opportunity to champion a local charity.

Requiring pupils to work closely with local charities, this inspirational activity not only helps young pupil to develop teamwork, research and presentation skills, it also gives them the opportunity to make a real difference by winning a £3,000 grant for their chosen charity.

So far, YPI has enabled more than 270,000 young Scots to be involved in the transformational distribution of six million pounds across local communities.

Profile picture for Mike Elder

Mike Elder

After a career in school leadership, Mike now produces podcasts and provides podcasting services through Free Range Podcasting (www.freerangepodcasting.co.uk).
Historically, succinctness has not been one of Mike's defining characteristics, so the goal of providing meaningful and worthwhile content in 60 second episodes is not without its challenges for him... but he reckons that if he can do it, others will be able to join in as well, which would be great!
Profile picture for Bex Elder

Bex Elder

Bex is a freelance translator and writer based in the North East of Scotland. Her love of words, a good chat and energetic debate led her into podcasting. She currently splits her working hours between her own business and being employed a day per week by her local church as its Assistant Youth Pastor. Bex loves running, getting lost in a good book, drinking copious amounts of tea and will argue passionately that 'Home Alone 3' is the best of the bunch!
