S1 Ep 1 – Best Ever ‘Best Evers’ Article

Mike explains that to kick off the ‘Best Evers’ season, he has revisited a 2004 article in a pupil newspaper, which featured a double page spread of ‘Best Ever’ choices submitted by staff and pupils from across the school, including the following:

  • Best Ever Pet – a fire salamander called Ivan
  • Best Ever Goldfish – Bubbles
  • Best Ever Hair Gel – DAX Wax
  • Best Ever Skateboard Moves – Big Spin and Ollie
  • Best Ever Theme Park Ride – Hulk Coaster
  • Best Ever Bit of Grammar – Dangling Modifier
  • Best Ever Car – Aston Martin DB4GT
  • Best Ever Live Performance – ZZ Top in concert at the Apollo Theatre, Glasgow, in 1983
  • Best Ever Piece of 19th Century Legislation – the 1802 Health and Morals of Apprentices Act

Almost twenty years on, this piece of pupil journalism still works and has also provided the inspiration for the inaugural ‘Worth a Minute’ podcast season, which is why it is Mike’s best ever ‘Best Evers’ article!

Mike Elder

After a career in school leadership, Mike now produces podcasts and provides podcasting services through Free Range Podcasting (www.freerangepodcasting.co.uk).
Historically, succinctness has not been one of Mike's defining characteristics, so the goal of providing meaningful and worthwhile content in 60 second episodes is not without its challenges for him... but he reckons that if he can do it, others will be able to join in as well, which would be great!
Profile picture for Bex Elder

Bex Elder

Bex is a freelance translator and writer based in the North East of Scotland. Her love of words, a good chat and energetic debate led her into podcasting. She currently splits her working hours between her own business and being employed a day per week by her local church as its Assistant Youth Pastor. Bex loves running, getting lost in a good book, drinking copious amounts of tea and will argue passionately that 'Home Alone 3' is the best of the bunch!
